Platelets:
Platelets are irregular disc-shaped elements of the blood which assist in blood clotting. Other major blood elements include protein, serum and red and white blood cells. Although platelets are classed as blood cells, they are not. They are fragments of a large cells called megakaryocytes (literally, large cells).
