Kuru:
A slowly progressive fatal disease of the brain (a form of subacute spongiform encephalopathy) due to an infectious agent (a virus or subviral particle called a prion) transmitted among people in Papua New Guinea by ritual canabalism. The discovery of the basis of Kuru is one of the more interesting detective stories of 20th-century medicine.
