Gene expression:
A gene speaks. When a gene is expressed, the information encoded in the gene is translated into protein or RNA structures present and operating in the cell. Expressed genes include genes that are transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA) and then translated into protein as well as those genes that are transcribed into RNA (such transfer and ribosomal RNAs) but not translated into protein.
