Disease, HirschsprungÆs:

Absence of nerves (ganglia) in the bowel wall starting in the anus extending up a variable distance with enlargement of the bowel above that point. HirschsprungÆs disease is the commonest cause of lower intestinal obstruction in the newborn and, later, one of the causes of chronic constipation. Also called congenital aganglionic megacolon.
